Palestine From Above
In its curatorial statement, the committee argues that viewing Palestine from above has historically been part of a colonial strategy aimed at subjugation and control. This effort was carried out through advanced technologies such as photography, cartography, remote sensing, and surveillance, working alongside military operations on the ground. In modern times, this aerial view has evolved into a complex security technology, serving as a tool for deterrence. Therefore, interpreting aerial images of Palestinian geography involves more than just analyzing the photos, maps, or films; it requires a critical look at the politics driving the use of this technology and the reasons behind generating these images. What is seen from above cannot be fully understood without considering the realities on the ground, which remain hidden from this vantage point.
